Visual Development Sample: Color, Texture, & Tone — Blackbird
VISUAL DEVELOPMENT • WORLD-BUILDING • MOOD BOARD
As part of early visual development for my narrative-driven mystery game Blackbird, I created a Visual Moodboard and World Aesthetic Document to establish the project’s environmental tone, historical influences, and emotional atmosphere.
This 6-page sample presents a selection of key visual references used to shape the game’s early identity, focusing on:
Color Palettes – Defining muted, atmospheric color stories aligned with the game’s narrative setting.
Texture and Environmental References – Capturing material and environmental moods through visual examples (stone, water, rural decay, city grit).
Cinematic Inspirations – Referencing classic and modern media to inform lighting, framing, and emotional tone.
This sample highlights how visual storytelling integrates with environmental and narrative worldbuilding. It is an excerpt from the larger 45-page Visual Development Document created for internal game planning and future collaborative alignment.
