In-Game Character Tracker

Narrative Systems Design | Character Development | Writer Tools | Cross-Team Communications

This spreadsheet template was originally built for a narrative team to collect, track, and share character information across an entire studio, serving as a single source of truth for both writers’ internal reference and cross-team communication with design, production, art, and audio. Deeper technical development details can be added or removed to studio’s preference, otherwise likely residing in scene or arc documentation.

Its structure balances creative depth and technical clarity, making it easy for writers to capture detailed arcs while giving developers and producers quick-glance insights.

Key features include:

  • Writer-Facing Detail — names, roles, personality notes, arcs, and narrative status for each character.

  • Cross-Team Columns — scene appearances, implementation status, and dev notes.

  • Relationship Mapping — links between characters, events, conflicts, and dependencies.

  • Collaboration-Friendly Layout — clean, sortable, and scalable for full studio use.

Originally created for a story-driven horror/mystery game, the template is genre-agnostic and adaptable for any project needing organized, accessible character tracking.

Deliverables:

  • Multi-sheet character tracker, layered both by level of accessibility and game region
