Mars enters Gemini
Leaving the Bull behind, Mars will be ingressing into Gemini on 20 August 2022. In exiting a Venus-ruled sign (Taurus), it’s leaving its place of exile and will become a much more comfortable and empowered Mars. It will also be playing out a retrograde here (starting in October), meaning its transit through Gemini is especially longer than usual (Mars normally spends ~2months in each sign). He will be leaving Gemini and entering Cancer on 25 March, 2023 (~7months).
Here, action unites with the mind; Our motivating desires, our will, and our actions will be playing out under Mercury’s rule in its masculine, airy temple of Gemini. Mars is a planet craving action, and is accustomed to having to fight for what he wants. In an air sign, that want is more mental, and how we go about doing things will adjust to the element as well.
The how is important to Mars; In Gemini, the perspective broadens (as it does in air signs) to a broader, more collective view. It can see bigger picture AND it understands the small details necessary to get there, although the will to do the little things or complete tasks in their totality might not be so strong…
Air signs are busy bees, at least mentally; They have seem to have a different perspective on the world, a larger overview, and therefore live with an understanding of the Universe’s vastness and variability. Hence why air signs have been deemed the most ‘detached’ signs, emotionally- they live with an understanding of 1. the existence of the collective and 2. how every piece is simultaneously separate and a piece of it. To put it all very lightly…This is why Gemini is so sociable, as they’re able to relate with different people and situations. And why Libra can be indecisive, seeing the truths in both points of view. Or why Aquarius is declaratively unique, because they know there must be that balance of aloofness in the world.
So, seeing the world in a different way, air signs have busy minds. Active and intellectual, Gemini is especially into keeping things light and airy; Mars will feel the need to stay adaptable and flexible in its time in Gemini, seeing the bigger picture, and honestly, using it to have some fun. When you do see the bigger picture, in general, the little details don’t seem so overwhelming or pressing- A viewpoint/tactic Gemini is very familiar with.
Adaptable, flexible, intelligent, relatable, sociable, and light are all in Gemini’s wheelhouse. Put Mars here and its focus turns to mental activity and dexterity. That increased need for stimulation manifests in many different ways; Balancing many tasks, starting new projects or revamping old ones, finding creative solutions to navigate obstacles… Its as though Mercury (who will be in Leo/Virgo BTW) is lending its hand to Mars, influencing the motivating ‘why’ behind the actions we take, which affects how we go about them (hint: reread the first sentence of this paragraph 😛).
In his pure masculine essence, Mars doesn’t easily let go of his assertivenss. Why should he? Courage, leadership, and the drive for ‘power’ (that word can mean many different things) are necessary components of the human experience. Leaving its exile, Mars gains some strength in Gemini and is able to step back into a more confident leadership role. Whatever house Gemini lands in for you is bound is feel activated and empowered with energy, courage, ambition, motivation, desire, and strength. Remember: there is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’, and these energies (as any others) yearn to be understood deeper and need to be channeled with consideration (especially when Mars is involved).

[POSSIBILITIES] The need for stimulating activities and a hastened pace; Be wary of Mars’ tendency to get testy or succumb to a sharp tongue.
[TRACK FOR TRANSIT] This one’s funky and a bit subjective, per Flume’s usual. His innovative beats are very near and dear to my heart, and this track just so happens to be his first single (circa 2011). The title ‘Sleepless’ spoke to me too, in honor of how restless Mars’ is about to get! It’s got some harder masculine elements while keeping you on your toes between phrases and shooting out carefree, optimistic vibes.
[TRACK FOR TRANSIT] Once I heard “My kids should not know language, that shit is toxic; And it's not just what you’re saying, it's the tone you put it in; Silence can be draining, Silence can be painful, but Silence can be bliss", I couldn’t help but throw this track in here. Mindchatter, from my interpretation of yet another subjective song, encapsulates some of what Mars may feel during its time in Gemini. To put it simply, your mouth and mind are going to want to act quickly; Do with that what you will…

[HERBS FOR TRANSIT] One of my teachers is offering a 2023 course called Roots and Spheres, where him and his herbalist wife, Ashley, will be hosting Moon circles centered around intertwining planet and plant energies. Acyuta also hosts a daily astrology podcast, where Ashley recently offered some wisdom on plant teachers that both harness and soothe the intense energies of Mars in Gemini. I highly recommend you give it a listen.

**In my writings, you may notice pronouns for the planets being used interchangeably (ex: it/its + he/his). In traditional ancient astrology, all planets (except Mercury) are associated with a masculine or feminine (yin/yang) energy; These are simply archetypal concepts that help us better understand the nature of the cosmos and should not be taken as any means of division between the gendered energies. The hope is to embrace and embody both energies that live within us all.
